Kali Theatre’s free theatre writing programme for aspiring female-and non-binary playwrights of South Asian heritage.
Discovery is presented yearly in collaboration with a local leading UK theatres, touring around the country. Past partners include Hampstead Theatre, Theatre503, London Pleasance, Leeds Playhouse, Oldham Coliseum, Birmingham Repertory Theatre, Leicester Curve and Theatre in the Mill Bradford.
Selected writers receive:
Playwriting workshops led by leading industry practitioners
Dramaturgical support to develop a 20-minute play
A rehearsed reading with actors and a director
Two public performances as part of a showcase for industry, friends and family
A bursary towards travel expenses and childcare
Discovery peterborough 2026-7
This year we are partnering with Key Theatre, Peterborough to connect with South Asian female and non-binary playwrights throughout Peterborough and in the wider region.
Selected writers will be offered playwriting workshops, script development support and a bursary towards travel and childcare expenses. Culminating in a professionally produced showcase.
Who can apply:
Female and non-binary writers of South Asian descent
Based in or are from Peterborough and local regions
Have never had a play professionally produced
Aged 18+
Eligible to live and work in the UK
No previous writing experience is necessary; we can accommodate all access needs and abilities!
Dates held at Key Theatre, Peterborough:
Taster Session - 25th July, Online
Session 1 - 26th September
Session 2 - 17th October
Session 3 - 31st October
Session 4 - 21st November
Showcase Week - 1st - 6th February 2027
Writers must commit to all workshop and rehearsal dates.
